Hivos: the climate belongs to everyone
Hivos: the climate belongs to everyone
Climate change is a threat to life everywhere in the world. Heat waves or storms, droughts or floods, less biodiversity and food shortages, ultimately it affects us all. We’re in the same boat. Hivos joins organizations from all corners of society that unite with this declaration for the climate. Because climate change is not just the problem of nature and environmental organizations. The climate belongs to everyone. Everyone’s responsibility.
Fortunately, it is not too late. Climate change can be stopped, the solutions already exist and we know exactly what needs to be done. It requires enormous effort and difficult choices, but there are also great opportunities for a greener and fairer world. The world our children and grandchildren deserve. Citizens, local governments and companies are taking the initiative towards lower emissions and a more sustainable lifestyle, but not everyone can or wants to participate.
The government will therefore have to take the lead by making really hard choices in which people and nature take center stage and the polluter pays. That has never happened until now. Because even though the Dutch government has recently taken measures in the field of climate, it is far from enough. That will not save our beautiful world.
Public action is therefore desperately needed to underline the urgency. School strikes, protests, marches – anything that can persuade the government to take serious action against further climate change deserves our support.
That is why we support the Climate Strike in The Hague on September 27 and ask everyone to participate. We call on the government to listen carefully to the students, concerned grandparents, students, strikers, animal rights activists, scientists and all those other people who unite for the climate.
The climate belongs to all of us and together we can get the Netherlands into action!
